- 6 cups beef broth
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 crusty baguette (sliced)

- 4 sprigs fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sugar; cook for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Add Broth and Wine: Pour in beef broth and dry white wine. Stir well, scraping any bits from the bottom of the pot.
- Season: Add thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20-30 minutes to meld flavors.
- Prepare Bread: Toast baguette slices until crispy.
- Melt Cheese: Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls, top with toasted baguette slices and Gruyère cheese. Broil until bubbly and golden.
