- 1 jar (16 oz) grape leaves, rinsed
- 1 cup short-grain rice
- 1 lb ground beef or lamb
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup fresh parsley, chopped
- ¼ cup fresh dill, chopped
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Rinse the rice under cold water until clear. In a bowl, mix the rice, ground meat, onion, parsley, dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper thoroughly.
- Prepare grape leaves by rinsing jarred ones or blanching fresh ones in boiling water for about 2 minutes.
- Lay each leaf shiny side down and place about one tablespoon of filling near the stem end. Fold in the sides and roll tightly.
- In a pot or baking dish, layer unused grape leaves on the bottom. Arrange stuffed leaves seam-side down in rows.
- Pour tomato sauce over them until covered and drizzle with olive oil.
- Cover and cook on low heat for about 60 minutes or bake at 350°F (175°C) until tender.
