Easy enough for beginners yet impressive enough for guests, this recipe is destined to become a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk until just warm to the touch. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk with sugar and yeast; let sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Gradually add flour and melted butter while stirring gently until combined into a sticky dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. While waiting, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle shape approximately ¼ inch thick.
  6. Spread melted butter over the dough, sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture, then roll tightly into a log.
  7. Slice the log into even pieces (about 1-2 inches thick) and place in greased baking dishes.
  8. Cover rolls again and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
