Ingredients
  

Frosting Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Frosting
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.
  3. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then beat on high speed for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, add a little more cream; if too thin, add more powdered sugar.
  5. Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

This buttercream frosting can be colored with food coloring for decoration. It can also be flavored with cocoa powder or other extracts.
