Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup white rice uncooked
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon for garnish
Optional Toppings
  • 1/4 cup raisins optional
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts optional

Method

Cooking the Rice
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the rice and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
Making the Pudding
  1. Add the milk, sugar, and salt to the cooked rice in the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  2. Increase the heat to medium and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 15 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Serving
  1. Spoon the rice pudding into serving bowls. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and add optional toppings if desired.
  2. Serve warm or chilled, according to preference.

Notes

For a creamier texture, you can substitute some of the whole milk with heavy cream.
